The Luncheon was called to order by Santa Dennis Simpson with a HO! HO! 31 Santas, Mrs. Clauses, elves, spouses and friends present. Santa Ron Kearns blessed our meal. Dennis thanked Santa Tom and Carole Mead for hosting. Introductions were made around the table. The meeting was started with the recitation of the Santa Oath. It has been suggested that from this time forward, we use this to open all of our meetings. Minutes from the previous meeting in Bellevue were dispensed with.
Reports
We have had a request from Santa America for our Email addresses. It was decided that would be okay as long as there was a clear understanding that it would not be sold, traded, or shared with other entities.
Mention was made or the Jim Yellig Santa Workshop in Santa Claus, IN, in April, FORB’S Santa Reunion in January in San Diego, and Claus Fest in March in Gatlinburg, TN.
Santa Ron reported that they are starting a Wounded Warrior project at Joint Base Lewis-McChord. If our Santas are to be involved, we must be Hospice trained. Hospice would also be a good way to have the T-B and flu shots that are needed. Those that are interested should get their names to Santa Ron.
Santa Trever was thanked for his work on the Norpac Website. Pictures and biographies can be emailed to Trever at SantaT@comcast.net.Our 2nd annual Great Wolf Lodge Conference will be held on November 3-5, 2011. The registration fee is $50 for Santa, $25 for additional adult, $15 for children 3-12. There will be a welcome bag included in this registration. Donations for the bag would be welcomed. The room rates are $99 for a King bed and $139 for a family room which includes four water passes. The Thursday night King Rooms are already sold out. Dennis will talk to marketing tomorrow morning to see if they will release more rooms for us. We will come in Thursday evening. Our first session will be Friday morning. Dennis asked for workshop ideas and volunteers. Suggestions for vendors beyond those already committed included glitzy Mrs. Claus jewelry, face painting, sign language, visit to Sew What, a local shop specializing in felt, a cookie exchange and the need for much more social time than last year. There will be buffet luncheon on Saturday included in registration. Breakfast will be on our own. The dining room breakfast is $10 and should be ordered in advance (check in). There will be a parade of Santas and Mrs. Clauses in the lobby at 3 PM Saturday. Registration deadline is October 1stand room rate will be held through October 4th. Our group room number is 1111NORP. It is hoped that there can be a group pool shot. Old time Men’s swim suits can be ordered on line through Gentlemen’s Emporium.
Old Business
Last year to thank the sign language presenter donations were collected. They enabled her son Eric to experience horse therapy. Pictures of Eric taking his horse therapy were passed around. It has helped him so much the family is continuing the therapy.
New Business
Proposed by–laws for our Norpac Santas were presented. These are a version taken from the Oregon Santa Pack by-laws. Dennis asked us to read and give him our feed back by the 28th of August. If you are suggesting changes, highlight them in some way, such as underlining, coloring them in red, etc. In November we will adopt the by-laws. After they have been approved we will have an election of officers.
In the future our meeting dates will be the first Saturday in March, May, August, and November.
Dennis presented two versions of a Norpac logo that Michele created. A vote was taken and the all white logo on red background was favored. Dickies is a source for red shirts as well as restaurant supply houses. John Puryear said he can do vinyl lettering. Top to Bottom is a store in the B & I shopping center on Tacoma Way in Tacoma that has large size clothes that Santa could use, white pants, white shoes, etc. Fabric Depot in Portland is a good source for fabrics. Santa Ron stated he had for sale four cross the shouldered velvet bags to hold candy canes. He will bring them to our conference in November.
Santa Dennis showed a caricature picture that was drawn by an artist at the Santa Pack. He asked if there was interest in having this artist come to our conference. After a positive response, he said he would check into it and possibly have a package deal in place that includes the drawing, frame and mat.
It was reported that we do not need to hold a separate meeting of FORBS Chapter 7 from the Norpac Santa meeting. It is not required by FORBS.
Santa Trevor reported certain people are spreading negative rumors about FORBS and certain FORBS members. His advice is to ignore these rumors.
We may consider Dues for 2012 to cover incidental expenses.
There being to future business the meeting was adjourned so pictures could be taken.Respectfully submitted, Ed Hayes, Secretary
